Storage Terms and Conditions
The terms that apply when you register with us or store your documents with the National Document Register.
Last updated: 14 October 2026.
1. About us and these terms
National Document Register is a trading name of DJI728 Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 15307546), registered office 50 Princes Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 1RJ, and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration number ZC242588 ("we", "us", "our").
These terms apply when you register with us or ask us to store documents for you ("you"). They form the contract between you and us, together with the plan and price we confirm to you in writing before you send us any documents. Please read them carefully. If anything in these terms conflicts with our written confirmation, the written confirmation applies.
We are a private document storage service. We are not an official or government register, and we do not give legal, financial or tax advice. We do not check whether any document we store is valid, up to date or legally effective.
These terms apply to individuals and families. Solicitors, will writers and other professional partners are covered by a separate written partner agreement and data processing agreement.
2. Our services
- Register (free). A private record of what important documents you have and where they are held, so the people you authorise can find them. We do not hold any documents under this service. Section 3 sets out how the register works.
- Storage plans. We hold your original documents in secure storage, keep a record of what we hold and who is authorised to retrieve it, and make a scanned copy of each document, which we send to you by email on request.
- Retrieval. We release documents to you or to the people you have authorised, as set out in section 8.
3. The register (free registrations)
3.1 Our register is a free record of what important documents a person has and where they are kept. We do not hold any documents under this service, and registering does not place your documents in our care. If you would like us to hold your original documents, that is a storage plan under section 4.
3.2 Anyone can register, whether or not they store documents with us. There is no charge, we do not ask for card details, and there is no obligation to buy anything from us.
3.3 You may register your own documents, or another person's documents if you have their permission or are otherwise entitled to do so. When you register on someone else's behalf, you confirm to us that this is the case.
3.4 We record the information you give us. We do not check that a document exists, that it is valid, that it is up to date, or what it says, and we do not verify the information supplied. The register is a record of what we have been told, not a statement of fact by us.
3.5 Once we have checked your entry, we will send you a registration certificate showing your reference number and what we have recorded. Please keep it with your important papers and tell your executors or attorneys that it exists.
3.6 Please tell us if a registered document is replaced, destroyed or moved somewhere else, and we will update your entry free of charge. We may contact you from time to time to ask you to check that your entry is still correct. A register is only as accurate as the information in it, and we are not responsible for an entry that is out of date because we were not told.
3.7 After a death, we will search the register free of charge on request, for executors, personal representatives, or others with a reasonable interest in the estate. Before we release what is recorded, we may ask for evidence of the death, proof of identity, and evidence of the requester's interest in the estate. We may decline a request where we are not satisfied, or where releasing the information would be inappropriate. We never charge the family for a search.
3.8 We keep your entry until you ask us to remove it, or until we are told that the estate has been administered and the entry is no longer needed. This is deliberate: a register that expires would defeat the purpose. You, or the person the documents belong to, can ask us to change or remove an entry at any time by emailing info@nationaldocumentregister.com, and we will confirm when it is done.
3.9 Because the register is free, we may change how it works, or stop offering it, by giving registrants at least 30 days' notice by email. If we ever do, we will tell you what is happening to your entry. Our continuity arrangements in section 11 apply to the register as well as to stored documents.
3.10 We will take reasonable care of your entry and search it in good faith, but we are not responsible for what happens to the documents themselves, for anyone moving, destroying or failing to find them, or for any loss arising from information that you or another person gave us. Nothing in this section limits our liability where the law does not allow it.
3.11 National Document Register is a private service. It is not an official or government register, and there is no official register of wills in England & Wales. Registering has no effect on the validity of any document and gives us no role in the administration of any estate.
4. Plans and prices
Our current plans and prices are shown on our Pricing page, and the plan and price that applies to you will be confirmed to you in writing before you pay or send us any documents. Online card and Direct Debit payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. DJI728 Ltd is not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added: the price we confirm is the total you pay for your plan.
Essential and Lifetime plans cover up to 5 documents belonging to one person. Family and Family Lifetime plans cover up to 10 documents belonging to two adults living at the same address. Documents beyond these limits can be stored for an additional price, which we will confirm before you send them.
Annual plans run for 12 months from the date we confirm your plan. At least 30 days before each renewal date, we will email you with the renewal price. If you paid through our secure online payment page, by card or by Direct Debit, your plan renews automatically each year and the renewal is collected using the same payment method on the renewal date, unless you cancel before then. If you paid another way, your plan renews when you pay the renewal we send you.
We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any change to the price of your plan, which you can avoid by cancelling before the change takes effect.
A Lifetime plan is a single payment that covers storage of the documents listed in your written confirmation for the rest of your life, and until those documents are released or returned after your death. It is not affected by future price changes.
If you want to add documents to your plan, we will confirm in writing whether they are covered by your existing plan or whether a different price applies before you send them.
5. Your right to cancel
You have the legal right to cancel your contract within 14 days of the day we confirm your plan, without giving a reason. To cancel, email us at info@nationaldocumentregister.com. We will refund any payment within 14 days of your cancellation, using the same payment method you used.
If you ask us to start storing your documents within the 14-day period and then cancel, we may deduct a proportionate amount for the storage already provided, and we will return your documents to you by secure, tracked delivery.
After the 14-day period you can still cancel an annual plan at any time; it will simply not renew, and we will return your documents at the end of the period you have paid for, or sooner if you ask. We do not refund the unused part of a period already paid for, except where the law requires it. A Lifetime plan is not refundable after the 14-day period, but you can ask for your documents back at any time.
6. Sending us your documents
Please email us at info@nationaldocumentregister.com before sending any documents, so that we can confirm your plan and how to send them. Please send documents only using the method we confirm to you, which will be tracked and insured post, or hand them to us in person where we have agreed this. Until your documents are received by us, they are your responsibility and the responsibility of the delivery service you use, unless we have arranged the delivery ourselves.
When your documents arrive, we will check them against what you told us, scan them, log them in our records and confirm to you in writing exactly what we have received. If anything is missing or different from what you described, we will tell you promptly.
7. What we will and won't store
We store paper documents such as wills and letters of wishes, lasting powers of attorney, property deeds and title documents, certificates, trust deeds and business records.
We will not store cash, jewellery or other valuables, bearer bonds or other items that are valuable in themselves, anything hazardous, perishable or illegal, or anything we reasonably believe you do not have the right to give us. We may decline to store any item at our discretion and will return it to you if so.
8. Viewing and retrieving your documents
- Scanned copies. You, or anyone you have authorised, can ask for a scanned copy of any document we hold by emailing info@nationaldocumentregister.com. We send it free of charge to the email address we hold for you or for that authorised person, once we are satisfied the request comes from you or from them.
- Authorised people. You can tell us in writing who is authorised to retrieve your documents (for example your executors or attorneys) and change this at any time. We will only release documents to you or to an authorised person, after checking their identity and authority.
- Release to your executors. After your death, we will release your will and related documents free of charge to your executors, or to anyone else entitled to them, once they have provided a copy of the death certificate, proof of their identity and reasonable evidence of their entitlement.
- Lasting powers of attorney. We will release a lasting power of attorney to a named attorney on request, after checking their identity.
- Other physical retrievals. If you ask for an original to be sent to you at any other time, we will charge a small dispatch fee that covers the cost of secure, tracked and insured delivery, which we will confirm before we send it. We never charge a search or access fee.
9. Looking after your documents
We will take reasonable care of your documents, store them in secure, fire-protected, flood-protected and access-controlled storage, keep accurate records of what we hold and who can retrieve it, and keep our storage insured.
We will keep your documents confidential and will only open, copy or disclose them as needed to provide our service, as you instruct, or where the law or a court requires it.
10. If you stop paying
If a renewal payment for an annual plan is not made, we will contact you and give you at least 30 days to pay. If payment is still not made, we may end your plan and return your documents to the last address you gave us, by secure, tracked delivery.
We will never destroy an original will or lasting power of attorney because a payment has not been made. If we cannot return such a document to you, we will continue to hold it safely and release it to your executors or attorneys when needed, and we may ask for any unpaid storage fees at that time.
We will only securely destroy other documents with your written instruction, or where the law allows it and we have made reasonable attempts to contact you and return them first.
11. Continuity
If we ever decide to stop providing our service, or if DJI728 Ltd is sold, restructured or stops trading, we will make arrangements for your documents and records to be transferred to another secure custodian or returned to you, and we will tell you in writing what is happening and what your options are.
12. Our responsibility for loss or damage
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable, that is caused by events outside our reasonable control, or that results from inaccurate information you give us.
If an original document is lost or damaged while in our care because of our failure to take reasonable care, we will pay the reasonable, foreseeable costs of replacing it or, where it cannot be replaced, of taking the steps needed to prove its contents.
We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited by law. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
13. Your responsibilities
- Give us accurate information and tell us promptly if your contact details or authorised people change.
- Only send us documents you are entitled to give us.
- Keep the email address we hold for you up to date, as it is where we send scanned copies and notices.
- Tell the people you have authorised that your documents are stored with us.
14. Your information
We use your personal information, and the personal information contained in your documents, as set out in our Privacy Policy.
15. Complaints
If you are unhappy with our service, please email info@nationaldocumentregister.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to resolve it within 28 days.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in how we provide our service. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any change that affects you materially, and you can cancel before the change takes effect if you do not agree to it.
17. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England & Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England & Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts of your home country.
